Narrative Environments
A speculative design exploration of interaction within the environment of faith
Exhibition: UAL – London College of Communication (December 2018)
Project: MA Interaction Design Communication 17/18 Final Show
For my thesis I investigated the presence of the masculine–feminine design dialog within the narrative environment of faith. One thing that became clear during my research was that the church, as a structure, is a fixed space that can have difficulty in adapting to the changing nature of culture and the varying context of how it can be used.
The design of the stained glass windows were an important part of this environment and communication. I see these windows as a media wall with images an texts that tell stories.
Religious Architecture, also referred to as ‘Sacred Architecture’ takes a lot of inspiration from the world around by looking at the geometric shapes and patterns in nature. These forms have been used to create structures of faith that have an ethereal quality and provoke a sense of wonder.
